Middlebury stops Colby in women's hockey
WATERVILLE, Maine --- After battling to a 1-1 tie after a period, Middlebury College exploded for three goals in the second period on the way to a 6-1 win against Colby College in women's hockey action at Alfond Arena on Saturday.
Colby (1-1) took a 1-0 lead when Heather DeVito (Arlington, Mass.) tallied with 8:30 to go. Middlebury got a key goal with just 58.9 seconds remaining to tie it at 1-1 on a score by Lindsay Jones (East Berlin, Pa.).
Emily Quizon (Chino Hills, Calif.) scored the eventual game-winning goal about three minutes into the second period. Liz Yale-Loehr (Ithaca, N.Y.) had the next two goals for a 4-1 lead at the break.
Allison Litai (Tenafly, N.J.) and Quizon added goals in the third period for the Panthers (2-0), the defending national champions and the current top-ranked team in Division III.
