Colby has 33 student-athletes on NESCAC Winter All-Academic Team

WATERVILLE, Maine ----- Colby College had 33 winter athletes named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Winter All-Academic Team.

The NESCAC has a new format for selecting all-academic honors. In the past, just 10 athletes (five men and five women) were named to the team. The new requirements state that a student-athlete must have reached junior academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.35.

Colby's members on the team included: senior women's alpine skier Siri Ashton (East Burke, Vt.), women's hockey player Lindsay Barada (New Caanan, Conn.), junior men's squash player Todd Basnight (Newton, Mass.), senior men's hockey player Nick Bayley (Cambridge, Ontario), senior men's alpine skier Jacob Colognesi (Charleton, Mass.), senior men's swimmer Justin Dubois (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan), senior women's swimmer Kristi Eck (Lake Bluff, Ill.), senior men's hockey player Cory Ernst (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia), senior men's indoor track athlete James Falk (Duluth, Minn.), junior men's indoor track athlete Jason Foster (Waterbury, Vt.), senior women's indoor track athlete Nora Gouge (New York, N.Y.), senior men's swimmer Tom Ireland (Exeter, N.H.), senior women's indoor track athlete Karina Johnson (Tolland, Conn.), senior women's indoor track athlete Maggie Johnson (Rockland, Maine), women's squash player Kathryn Lynch (Wilton, Conn.), junior women's swimmer Sharon McMonagle (Avon, N.J.), junior women's indoor track athlete Jess Minty (Concord, Mass.), junior men's indoor track athlete Josh Montague (Worcester, Vt.), senior men's hockey player Joel Morash (Liverpool, Nova Scotia), senior women's squash player Gillian Nadel (White Plains, N.Y.), senior men's basketball player Tom Nale (Waterville, Maine), junior men's hockey player Ryan O'Flanagan (Toronto, Ontario), senior men's hockey player Ken Pitter (Armonk, N.Y.), senior women's swimmer Melissa Plante (Fayetteville, N.Y.), senior women's hockey player Kristin Putnam (Oakland, Maine), junior men's alpine skier Charlie Reed (Park City, Utah), senior men's hockey player Chris Ries (Pittsburgh, Pa.), senior men's basketball player Mike Rutherford (Wyckoff, N.J.), senior men's swimmer Dan Seifert (New Milford, Conn.), senior men's hockey player Patrick Slipp (Woodstock, New Brunswick), junior men's Nordic skier Brandon Smithwood (Concord, Mass.), junior men's squash player Nate Stone (Bow, N.H.) and junior men's squash player Sam Weeks (Keene, N.H.).

Bayley and Ernst made the team the past three years. Basnight, Minty and Rutherford also made the squad last year. Dubois, Karina Johnson and Putnam made the team two years ago.
