Women's lacrosse players Jones, Barrett honored by NESCAC
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College's Kim Jones (Governor Dummer Academy/Wenham, Mass.) and Lauren Barrett (Greens Farms Academy/Fairfield, Conn.) each earned New England Small College Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse All-Conference honors.
Jones was named to the first team as a defender, while Barrett was the Co-NESCAC Rookie of the Year and made the second team as a midfielder.
Jones led Colby in ground balls (72), caused turnovers (54) and minutes played (832). She was second on the team in draw controls with 27 and added three goals on just four shots.
Jones finished her career as the all-time leader at Colby in ground balls with 239. Kara Marchant '97 had the old record of 199. Jones also had 156 caused turnovers and added six goals and one assist in 59 games.
Barrett made her presence felt quickly at Colby by tying for the team lead in scoring with 38 goals and seven assists for 45 points. She had 38 goals on just 68 shots for a .559 shot percentage. Barrett also led the Mules in free-position goals with 11 on 17 chances.
Barrett had some big games against NESCAC opponents. She had six goals and one assist against current fifth-ranked Bowdoin College, four goals and one assist against fourth-ranked Amherst College and added four goals versus 15th-ranked Wesleyan.
Colby finished its season at 11-5 and is ranked 11th in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association national poll.
