Colby women's soccer falls to Bowdoin
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Katherine Whitley (Indian Springs/Birmingham, Ala.) scored both goals in leading the Bowdoin College women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over rival Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday.
Whitley, a first-year forward, scored the eventual game-winning goal midway through the first half off an assist from senior forward Rachael Gordon (Wayland/Wayland, Mass.).
The Polar Bears (2-1, 1-0 NESCAC) added the insurance goal about eight minutes into the second half when Whitley tallied again off an assist from Melissa Anderson (Blake/Eden Prarie, Minn.).
Bowdoin goalkeeper Anna Shapell (Waynflete/Cape Elizabeth, Maine) stopped two shots for the shutout. Colby keeper Elizabeth Riley (Thornton Academy/Saco, Maine) stopped 12 shots.
