SOMERVILLE, Mass. ---- First-year player Meggie Herlihy (Simsbury, Conn.) scored just 1:25 after Tufts University had gone ahead to help the Colby College women's soccer team to a 1-1 tie with Tufts University on Saturday in NESCAC play.
Tufts (0-0-1 overall, 0-0-1 NESCAC) took a 1-0 advantage in the 23rd minute when returning leading scorer Jen Baldwin sent the ball through to Sarah Gelb for the goal.
The lead did not last long. During a scramble in front of the Tufts net, 2003 NESCAC Rookie of the Year Laura Williamson (Manchester, Conn.) for Colby got the ball to Herlihy for a goal just 85 seconds later.
The game featured several good scoring chances for both sides, especially in the first half. Tufts had more of the opportunities, but Colby goalkeeper Elizabeth Riley (Saco, Maine) played well in goal with 10 saves. The Jumbos earned a 37-15 advantage in shots, though the Mules (0-0-1, 0-0-1 NESCAC) did take eight corners compared to five for Tufts.
