Assistant coaches Lund, Tynan earn new jobs

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Bill Lund and Pat Tynan, two of the longest serving assistant coaches at Colby College, will be leaving Waterville for new jobs for the next academic year.

Lund, an assistant in football and track and field, has been named the new defensive coordinator for the Carleton (Minn.) College football team. Tynan, an assistant crew coach with the Mules, is the new interim head coach of the Williams College women's crew.

Lund had been at Colby for six years and worked with the linebackers and coordinated the special teams for the football team. He also assisted with the track and field teams, helping Colby's pole vaulters to record heights.

Lund, a Wisconsin native, spent three years as linebacker coach, special teams coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Saint Anselm College before getting the Colby job. He recently attended the 2006 NCAA Expert Coaches Academy in Miami.

Tynan will lead the Williams women's crew for one year while head coach Justin Moore is away on sabbatical working with the Canadian National Team. Williams just won the 2006 NCAA Division III title in women's crew after placing two boats in the top three.

Tynan spent five years as an assistant with the Colby crews and was responsible for coaching the novice crews. His novice crews had three unbeaten regular seasons and won the New England Rowing Championships and ECAC Championship in 2004 and 2005.

Tynan also assisted head coach Stew Stokes with the varsity crews and was part of the coaching staff when Colby won the NCAA Division III title in 2003. Before coming to Colby, Tynan was an assistant coach for two years at the University of Massachusetts.
