Bowdoin takes win over Colby in NESCAC East baseball
WATERVILLE, Maine – Trevor Powers (Wells, Maine) earned the victory and Jon Koperniak (Adams, Mass.) had a two-run homer to lead the Bowdoin College baseball team to an 11-3 win over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference East Division play Friday at Coombs Field.
Colby (6-9, 1-3 NESCAC East) and Bowdoin (15-5, 5-2) play a doubleheader Saturday at noon in Brunswick.
Powers worked into the eighth inning to earn his third win of the season, while Koperniak had his two-run home run in the second inning to give Bowdoin the lead for good.
Chris McCann (Hopkinton, Mass.) had three hits and three runs scored for the Polar Bears. Joe Berte (Malborough, Mass.) also had three hits and drove in four runs. Koperniak finished with a pair of hits and three RBI.
Colby did have 11 hits in the game, including three by leadoff hitter Nick Spillane (Darien, Conn.). Andy Carr (Conway, N.H.), Roddy Ames (Cotuit, Mass.) and Tom Salemy (Odessa, Fla.) all had two hits for the Mules.
