Colby baseball splits doubleheader with Maine-Presque Isle

WATERVILLE, Maine ---- The Mules sent 20 men to the plate in a 14-run fifth inning as Colby defeated the University of Maine-Presque Isle 16-2 in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday at Coombs Field.

In the second game, UMPI's Daniel Rolls (Blackstone, Mass.) pitched a complete game, giving up three runs and six hits to earn the Owls a 4-3 win.

In Colby's victory, Jon Vacca (Quincy, Mass.) had a two-run triple, Tom Salemy (Odessa, Fla.) had a triple and two RBI, and John Murphy (Hingham, Mass.) went 3-3 with three stolen bases. Rob Jacobs (Mequon, Wisc.) went five innings for the win.

Brian Morrison (New Glasgow, Nova Scotia) provided UMPI (5-11) with all the offense they needed in the second game, going 2-3 with two doubles, including one in the sixth inning that broke a 2-2 tie. Later in the inning, he came around to score what would prove to be the game-winning run. Robert Tourek (Wexform, Pa.) went 2-3 with an RBI for Colby (8-16).
