Tufts takes league win over Colby in baseball
MEDFORD, Mass. Tufts University scored six times in the third inning on the way to a 10-5 victory over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference East Division baseball Friday.
Colby got most of its offensive damage from third baseman Andy Carr, who belted two home runs and three RBI. Tom Salemy had a two-run double and Jon Vacca singled and scored for the Mules.
Colby scored three times off Zak Smotherman in the fifth with Salemy following up Carr’s home run with a two-run double. Zach Helm did a nice job in relief, throwing 4.1 innings without allowing a run. The game stayed 8-3 Tufts into the eighth.
Carr smacked a two-run home run in the top of the ninth to complete the scoring. He had two of Colby’s five hits on the day.
Colby (9-18, 2-8 NESCAC) will play two more games at Tufts (17-12, 7-3) at noon Saturday.
