Big inning lifts Bates past Colby in baseball
LEWISTON, Maine --- Sam Kennedy-Smith worked seven strong innings for the Colby College baseball team, but errors and relief pitching hurt the Mules as Bates College stormed back from a 7-2 deficit with 11 runs in the eighth inning to take a 13-7 win in non-conference play Friday.
Colby, which beat 23rd-ranked Bowdoin College at home on Thursday, struggled after Kennedy-Smith left the game after seven innings. Kennedy-Smith scattered seven hits and allowed just one earned run in helping the Mules to the 7-2 lead.
Brian Mahoney of Bates went 4-for-4 in the game and had a bases clearing double in the 11-run eighth inning.
Andy Carr had two hits, one run and one RBI for Colby, which finished the season at 10-21. Carr finished the season leading the Mules in batting at .408. Tom Salemy and Kyle McKay each had two hits for the Mules, while Nick Spillane scored two runs.
