Snediker's goal lifts Colby past Southern Maine

GORHAM, Maine First-year forward Mary Clare Snediker (New Caanan, Conn./Greenwich Academy) converted a penalty stroke late in the second half to lead the Colby College Mules to a 1-0 non-conference field hockey win against the University of Southern Maine Huskies Wednesday at Paula D. Hodgdon Field.

The 1-0 win improves Colby's overall record to 3-6.

Snediker notched her team-leading fourth goal of the season when she fired in a shot to the upper right corner of the goal to beat Southern Maine goalkeeper Natalie Nimon (Augusta, Maine/Cony) for the game-winner.

Colby pressured the Huskies defense for most of the game, out-shooting the Huskies 20-6 while holding a 23-1 advantage on penalty corners.

Colby junior goalkeeper Molly Rice (South Portland, Maine/South Portland) earned the win with four saves.

Colby plays again Saturday at home against NESCAC rival Amherst College at 11 a.m.
