Snediker's goal lifts Colby past Southern Maine
GORHAM, Maine First-year forward Mary Clare Snediker (New Caanan,
Conn./Greenwich Academy) converted a penalty stroke late in the second half
to lead the Colby College Mules to a 1-0 non-conference field hockey win
against the University of Southern Maine Huskies Wednesday at Paula D.
Hodgdon Field.
The 1-0 win improves Colby's overall record to 3-6.
Snediker notched her team-leading fourth goal of the season when she fired
in a shot to the upper right corner of the goal to beat Southern Maine
goalkeeper Natalie Nimon (Augusta, Maine/Cony) for the game-winner.
Colby pressured the Huskies defense for most of the game, out-shooting the
Huskies 20-6 while holding a 23-1 advantage on penalty corners.
Colby junior goalkeeper Molly Rice (South Portland, Maine/South Portland)
earned the win with four saves.
Colby plays again Saturday at home against NESCAC rival Amherst College at
11 a.m.
