Bates field hockey uses big second half to beat Colby
WATERVILLE, Maine ---- Bates College scored three goals in the final 20:34
of the game to pull out a 3-2 win against Colby College in New England
Small College Athletic Conference field hockey Saturday at Bill Alfond Field.
Bates (7-7, 3-6) earned the seventh and last seed in the NESCAC playoffs
and will visit second-seeded Middlebury at 1 p.m. Sunday. Colby, which
would have clinched the seventh seed with a victory Saturday, ends its
season at 5-8.
Colby led 2-0 at halftime on two unassisted goals by first-year forward
Mary Clare Snediker (New Canaan, Conn.).
Bates fought back and cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal by Allison
Marshall (Princeton, N.J.) with 20:34 left. The Bobcats tied the game when
Emily Sampson (Plymouth, N.H.) tallied with 17:22 to go.
Rachel Greenwood (Williamstown, Mass.) scored with 11:14 left off
an assist from Abby Childs (Philadelphia, Pa.) to put Bates up for good.
