Late goal lifts Colby past Maine-Farmington
WATERVILLE, Maine ---- Jennifer Reilly (Holderness/York Harbor, Maine) made her first goal of the season a big one in lifting the Colby College field hockey team to a 2-1 non-conference victory over University of Maine at Farmington on Tuesday night at Bill Alfond Field.
Reilly redirected a pass from teammate Emily Lawrence (Colorado Academy/Denver, Colo.) for the goal with just 30 seconds left in the game. The score came just 1:05 after the Beavers (7-3) had tied the game at 1-1.
After a scoreless first half, Colby (2-4) tallied first when Mary Clare Snediker (Greenwich Academy/New Canaan, Conn.) scored off a penalty stroke with 23:34 remaining.
The Mules kept UMF from any serious scoring chances for the next 20 minutes or so. The Beavers, though, had a few opportunities in the final three minutes and finally got one in on a goal by Kristin Chambers (Gorham, Maine) with 1:35 remaining.
Molly Rice (South Portland/South Portland, Maine) stopped 12 shots for Colby, while Kaeleigh Barker (Chichester, N.H.) made nine saves for UMF.
