Bowdoin stops Colby in field hockey
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College field hockey team stayed unbeaten with a 3-1 victory over Colby on Saturday. The Polar Bears (4-0-0) are ranked 17th in the latest national poll, while the Mules fall to 0-2 on the season.
Bowdoin took the lead just over six minutes into the contest, when senior co-captain Burgess LePage put home a scramble in front of the goal for a 1-0 lead. After several opportunities to increase their lead, the Polar Bears managed to score again mid-way through the second frame as Allyson Craib took a feed from Margaret Gormley and scored with 17:02 remaining. Bowdoin wrapped up the contest with eight minutes to play, as Hillary Hoffman collected a loose ball in front of the goal and scored to make it 3-0.
Colby added a late goal on a long shot from Kyla Wagman that deflected off a Bowdoin defender and into the goal with 2:07 remaining. Kate Leonard was strong in goal for Bowdoin, making five stops. Jamie Enos stopped a dozen shots for the Mules.
