Mules have big first half but fall to Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. --- The Colby College men's basketball team had the 10th-ranked team in the country in some trouble for the first 20 minutes of play, but Amherst College bounced back with a big second half in a 78-59 win over the Mules in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday.

The Mules (6-12, 0-5 NESCAC) led 33-26 at halftime after holding Amherst (16-2, 4-1) to just 23 percent shooting. The Lord Jeffs, who were 14-for-43 from 3-point range, scored 52 points in the second half.

Drew Cohen led Colby with 28 points, five rebounds and five blocked shots. Nate Dick added 12 points, while Nick Farrell had seven points and seven assists.

John Casnocha led Amherst with 17 points, while John Bedford had 16 points and eight rebounds.
