Late run helps USM defeat Mules in men's basketball
GORHAM, Maine --- University of Southern Maine scored the final 10 points of the game over the last 2:29 of play to pull out an 80-71 win over Colby College in men's basketball at the Maine Event consolation game Friday night at USM.
Colby (4-6) took a 71-70 lead when Mark Gaudet nailed a jumper with 2:29 remaining. Josh Daniels, though, answered with a 3-point shot for the Huskies with 2:07 left to take it 73-71 and USM scored seven more points after that key basket.
Daniels finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds to pace USM (6-5). Andy Frost added 11 point and 10 rebounds, while Ian Hebert had 14 points and five boards.
Gaudet, who had 24 points against Husson on Thursday night, had 20 points to lead Colby. Drew Cohen fouled out for the second straight night, but had 17 points, nine rebounds, four blocked shots and three assists in 26 minutes. Nick Farrell had 15 points, while Andrew Jenkins added 11 points and six rebounds.
USM led 37-36 at halftime and led by as much as 11 points midway through the second half.
