Cohen has 34 points in tough loss to UMF

WATERVILLE, Maine --- University of Maine at Farmington's Travis Carrier (Auburn, Maine) and Colby College's Drew Cohen (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) each made the most of their time on the court in UMF's wild 92-89 non-conference victory over the Mules at Wadsworth Gymnasium on Wednesday.

Carrier finished with 29 points and 12 rebounds in just 25 minutes of action, while Cohen added 34 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots in 27 minutes of play. The 6-foot-7 Carrier and the 6-6 Cohen each missed time because of foul problems.

Carrier had 21 points and nine rebounds in the second half to help the Beavers (9-9) fight back from a 76-69 deficit with 8:57 left in the game. UMF went on a 19-5 run over the next 6:30 of the game to take an 88-81 lead on a jumper by Carrier with 2:24 remaining.

Colby (6-13) battled back and got the margin down to one point at 90-89 when Nick Farrell (Aspen, Colo.) hit two free throws with 45 seconds left. In a wild sequence, the Beavers had three straight shots as Carrier finally scored on a lay-up with 23 seconds remaining and was fouled.

Carrier missed the free throw to keep the score at 92-89, but the Mules missed on an attempt with 15 seconds left. The Beavers managed not to get fouled in the final 15 seconds to run out the clock.

Matt St. John (Wayne, Maine) nailed five 3-point shots and had 17 points for the Beavers. Sean Fry (Jay, Maine) added 14 points and 12 boards, Isaac Hutchinson (Oakland, Maine) had 13 points, and point guard Travis Magnusson (Thomaston, Maine) finished with 12 points and nine assists.

Farrell had 16 points and 10 assists for Colby. Arthur Cutrone (Garden City, N.Y.) added 11 points and six rebounds, while Jon Bandi (Winchester, Mass.) and Mackenzie Simpson (Casco, Maine) both had nine points.

Colby will play a NESCAC game at Connecticut College on Friday at 7 p.m.
