Colby men's hockey gets past Conn College
WATERVILLE, Maine --- First-year forward Joel Covelli (Carlisle, Ontario) scored his fifth game-winning goal of the season as the Colby College men's hockey team took a 2-1 win over Connecticut College in NESCAC/ECAC East play Friday night at Alfond Rink.
Covelli scored off an assist from Greg Osborne (Stoughton, Mass.) at 11:01 of the second period to give Colby a 2-0 lead. However, that goal was the final of the night for the Mules (11-4, 7-3 league).
Rob Campbell (Reading, Mass.) tallied for the Camels (2-13, 1-9) at 17:46 of the second period, but Connecticut College could not get another shot past first-year goaltender Dean Feole (Windham, N.H.). Feole made eight of his 17 saves in the third period to hold off the Camels.
Colby came out strong and had 10 shots before the Camels could manage their first shot about 14 minutes into the contest. Matt Ahern (Melrose, Mass.) made his first collegiate goal a big one at 2:56 of the first period off assists from Josh Reber (Edina, Minn.) and T.J. Kelley (Ridgefield, Conn.).
The Camels got 28 saves from first-year goalie Dan Beauregard (Medfield, Mass.).
Colby will play host to Tufts University at 4 p.m. Saturday, while Conn College visits Bowdoin College for a 4 p.m. game.
