15th-ranked Colby defeats 11th-ranked New England College

WATERVILLE, Maine --- After spotting a goal to 11th-ranked New England College early on, the 15th-ranked Colby College men's hockey team scored the next four goals of the game on the way to a 4-2 win on Friday night at Alfond Rink.

Sophomore defensemen Joel Rothwell (Unionville, Ontario) scored the eventual game-winning goal and added an assist on the fourth goal for Colby (9-2).

New England College (7-2) scored 3:45 into the game on a goal by Jeremy Koning, who scored his 10th goal of the season.

The Mules battled back quickly when Josh Reber (Edina, Minn.) tallied just 58 seconds later off a pass from Joel Covelli (Carlisle, Ontario). The Mules then went up for good when Patrick Rutherford (Truro, Nova Scotia) scored at 8:18 of the first period from Ryan O'Flanagan (Toronto, Ontario). Colby closed out the scoring in the opening period with a power play goal by Rothwell from assists by T.J. Kelley (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Arthur Fritch (South Boston, Mass.).

After a scoreless second period, Greg Osborne (Stoughton, Mass.) scored his 13th goal of the season and earned his 50th career point with a goal at 6:21 to make it 4-1. Osborne, a junior co-captain, has 23 goals and 27 assists in his career.

RA Mobile (Algonquin, Ill.) closed out the scoring for NEC at 10:43.

Colby's Ben Grandjean (Waterford, Conn.) had 24 saves in moving to 4-0 this year.
