Colby men's hockey wins 10th game with win over Saint Anselm

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Ben Grandjean (Waterford, Conn.) capped off a big week in goal with 32 saves, including 14 in the final period, to lift the Colby College men's hockey team to a 4-3 victory over Saint Anselm College on Saturday at Alfond Rink.

Colby (10-2) opened up a 4-0 lead early in the second period, but Saint Anselm (8-2-1) made a goalie change and got back in the game.

The Mules led 2-0 after the first period on goals by T.J. Kelley (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Patrick Rutherford (Truro, Nova Scotia). Kelley scored at 8:23 off assists from Josh Reber (Edina, Minn.) and Joel Covelli (Carlisle, Ontario). Rutherford tallied with just two seconds left in the period from assists by Covelli and Greg Osborne (Stoughton, Mass.).

Covelli made it 3-0 just 50 seconds into the second period off passes from Kelley and Reber. Adam Marino (Lexington, Mass.) then got the eventual game-winning goal at 4:47 from Adam Carlson (Wolfeboro, Mass.) and Arthur Fritch (South Boston, Mass.).

The Hawks went to goalie Clay Adams (Chevy Chase, Md.) after the Marino goal and it paid off as Adams stopped 22 shots the rest of the way.

Saint Anselm got goals from Mike Walsh (Milton, Mass.) at 11:25 and Mike Curtis (Hanover, Mass.) at 16:28 to make it 4-2 after two periods.

Mike Foley (Medford, Mass.) scored at 7:40 of the third period to make it a one-goal game, but Grandjean kept the Hawks off the scoreboard after that goal. Grandjean had a 3-0 week and improved his record this year to 5-0.
