Colby men's hockey defeats UMass-Boston
BOSTON, Mass. --- Greg Osborne scored two goals and Colby College allowed just seven shots on goal in taking a 4-1 victory over University of Massachusetts at Boston on Saturday.
The victory capped a big opening weekend for the Mules (2-0), who knocked off 10th-ranked Babson College on Friday night.
Colby led 2-0 after the opening period on goals by Osborne and Patrick Rutherford, who had the assist on the opening goal. First-year players Cass Buttafuoco and Joel Covelli had assists on Rutherford's power play goal with just four seconds left in the period.
After a scoreless second period, UMass-Boston (0-2) cut the deficit to one when Aaron Burke scored unassisted at 13:04 of the third period.
Colby sealed the win when Osborne scored on the power play off assists from Arthur Fritch and T.J. Kelley at 17:07. Todd O'Hara scored about one minute later from an assist by Joe Rothwell.
Andy Cook needed to make just six saves to earn his second straight victory in goal. Matthew Lopes kept the Beacons in the game with 31 stops.
