Colby men's hockey at 4-0 after win over Salve Regina
WATERVILLE, Maine --- First-year forward Joel Covelli (Carlisle, Ontario) had a pair of goals and Josh Reber (Edina, Minn.) added three assists as the Colby College men's hockey team stayed unbeaten with a 6-1 win over Salve Regina in the Bowdoin-Colby Face-Off Classic on Sunday night at Alfond Arena.
Colby (4-0) and Bowdoin each finished the Face-Off Classic with 2-0 records, but the Polar Bears ended up winning the tourney based on the second criteria of goals allowed. The Mules allowed five goals in the two games, while Bowdoin gave up just two goals.
The Mules took a 3-0 lead in the first 9:05 of the game on a goal by Joe Rothwell (Unionville, Ontario) and two goals from Covelli. Reber had assists on the opening two goals.
Jake Noonan (Arlington, Mass.) got Salve Regina's lone goal at 13:21 of the first period.
The Mules added two more goals in the second period and a lone score in the third. Todd O'Hara (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Mike Butler (Saint John, New Brunswick) scored in the middle period and T.J. Kelley (Ridgefield, Conn.) had the final goal. Kelley also had an assist on the first goal of the game.
Ben Grandjean (Waterford, Conn.) got his first start of the season for Colby and made 23 saves in goal. Ryan Comerford (Merrimack, N.H.) made 41 stops for the Seahawks (2-3-2).
