Bowdoin edges Colby 3-2 in men's hockey

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Bowdoin College goaltender George Papachristopoulos (D.D.Q, Quebec) made 13 saves in the third period and kept Colby College off the scoreboard for the final 39:26 to lead the Polar Bears to a 3-2 victory in front of a packed crowd at Alfond Rink on Friday night in a NESCAC/ECAC East contest.

Papachristopoulos gave up a goal just 34 seconds into the second period to Colby's Greg Osborne (Stoughton, Mass.), but Bowdoin's senior goaltender made 10 saves the rest of the second period and stopped all 13 shots he faced in the final period to finish with 32 stops.

Osborne's goal broke a 1-1 tie and gave Colby (7-1) its only lead of the game. The Mules didn't keep the lead after Bowdoin's Greg McConnell (Charlottetown, PEI) scored just 1:20 later off an assist from Adam Dann (Burlington, Vt.).

The Polar Bears (6-1) got the game-winning goal at 5:05 of the second period on a score by Mike Chute (West Hartford, Conn.).

Bryan Ciborowski gave Bowdoin a 1-0 lead at 16:08 of the first period, but Colby struck back quickly when Osborne got his first goal of the game at 17:31.

Andy Cook stopped 28 shots in the nets for Colby.

Bowdon and Colby will play again Saturday at 7 p.m. in Brunswick.
