Middlebury men's lacrosse stops Mules
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. --- The second-ranked Middlebury College men's lacrosse team started strong with six goals in the opening period on the way to a 14-4 win over Colby College in the season opener for both teams in New England Small College Athletic Conference play.
Jim Cabrera had five goals and J.P. Coviello scored four times for Middlebury (1-0).
Todd Boertzel and Caddy Brooks got their first collegiate goals for Colby (0-1). Dan Schupack and Drew Piekarski also tallied for the Mules, while Dana McNally had one assist.
Jeff Miller made 12 saves and had seven ground balls in goal for Colby, which is off next week before playing its home opener next Sunday at 1 p.m. against Wheaton College.
