Colby men's lacrosse defeats 17th-ranked Tufts for third straight win
WATERVILLE, Maine ---- First-year attacker Caddy Brooks (Darien, Conn.) had four goals and two assists to lift the Colby College men's lacrosse team to a third straight win in a 17-9 victory over 17th-ranked Tufts University in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday at Bill Alfond Field.
Colby improves to 5-5 overall and 2-4 in the league, while Tufts falls to 7-4 and 3-3 in the conference. The Mules defeated Tufts for the first time since a 16-3 win in the 1998 season.
Colby led 7-5 at halftime and then exploded for 10 goals in the second half. The Mules had a 5-2 scoring edge over the Jumbos in both the third and fourth quarters.
Ryan Scott (Columbia, N.J.) added three goals and one assist for Colby. Todd Boertzel (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) also had three goals, while Rory Murphy (Brunswick, Maine) finished with one goal and two assists. Zach Goodnough (Brunswick, Maine) and Dan Schupack (Cheshire, Conn.) each had two goals.
Connor Ginsberg (New Haven, Conn.) led Tufts with two goals. Brett Holm (Longmeadow, Mass.) added one goal and one assist, while Mark Warner (Wading River, N.Y.) had two assists.
Jeff Miller (Marshfield, Mass.) stopped seven shots before being taken out late in the game for Colby. Nate Werlin (Winchester, Mass.) led the Mules in takeaways with six, had four ground balls and one assist.
