Colby men's lacrosse easily beats Southern Maine
GORHAM, Maine -- Caddy Brooks (Darien, Conn.) and Tim Brown (Manchester, Mass.) each scored three goals to lead Colby College to a 15-1 victory over the University of Southern Maine in a non-conference men's college lacrosse game Tuesday at Hodgdon Field.
The Mules are 6-7 overall and play at Wesleyan University at 11 a.m. Saturday. Southern Maine dropped to 2-9.
Dana McNally (Sudbury, Mass.) finished with five assists for Colby. Brooks scored the first goal less than three minutes into the game, converting a pass from sophomore Drew Piekarski (East Sandwich, Mass.), to get the Mules offense into gear. Senior Troy Lieberman (Andover, Mass.) and freshman Todd Boertzel (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) also scored in the opening quarter to give Colby a 3-0 lead.
The Mules added to their lead in the second quarter scoring four times. Brown opened the scoring 11 seconds into the period, and Brooks had the fourth goal.
Brooks' third goal put the Mules up 9-0 before Southern Maine got it only goal of the game from senior Zach Fermanis. The Mules would score six more goals over the final 24 minutes of play to account for the 15-1 final.
Lieberman, Piekarski and junior Ryan Scott (Columbia, N.J.) scored two goals apiece.
The Mules used four goalies in the game. Senior Jeff Miller (Marshfield, Mass./Phillips Exeter) played the first half making four saves. Alex Farmer (Madison, Conn.) and sophomores Tim Patch (Reading, Mass.) and Sean Collamore (Littleton, Colo.) split the time in the second half. Senior Jeff Lamoureux (Walpole, Mass.) had 25 saves for the Huskies.
