Colby men's soccer wins Elm City Bowl over Thomas
WATERVILLE, Maine – The Colby College men’s soccer team won the Elm City Bowl between Waterville rival Thomas College for the 12th straight time in a 4-1 non-conference victory on Monday.
The winner of the game each year is awarded the Elm City Bowl.
The Mules (4-3) piled 34 shots on goal and received two goals apiece from Chris MacFadyen (Moses Brown/Providence, R.I.) and Monty Hankin (Canandaigua/Canandaigua, N.Y.).
Colby scored three goals in the final 20 minutes of play in the first half for a 3-0 lead at intermission. MacFadyen stole the ball away from a defender and scored the opening goal. Hankin got the eventual game-winning goal with about 12 minutes left to halftime off an assist from Thomas Milaschewski (St. John’s Prep/Beverly, Mass.). Hankin tallied with less than two minutes remaining for Colby’s third goal off a pass from Lucas Bennett (BB&N/Concord, Mass.).
Colby and Thomas (0-8-1) traded goals in the second half. The Mules went up 4-0 on another unassisted goal by MacFadyen about two minutes into the second half. The Terriers got an unassisted goal from Craig Ziegler (Wiscasset, Maine) to finish the scoring.
Zach Starr (Greens Farm/Westport, Conn.) played his first minutes of the season and had one save for Colby. Ryan Conrad (Augusta, Maine) stopped 12 shots for Thomas.
