Men's soccer player Kiernan named All-New England
WATERVILLE, Maine ----- Colby College men's soccer player Daniel Kiernan (Roxbury Latin/Brookline, Mass.) earned All-New England West second team honors on Monday.
Kiernan had already been named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) second team as a defender. Kiernan also was honored with Colby's Mike Loebs Award as team MVP and was named a co-captain along with teammate Josh Kahane for the 2006 squad.
Kiernan led the Mules in scoring last year, but switched positions to a defender after Colby was hit hard by graduation in back. Kiernan, a junior, added one goal and two assists while helping to lead a defense that allowed just 16 goals in 14 games.
Kiernan had four goals and five assists in 2004 as a forward. He was third in scoring for the Mules in his first season at Colby with three goals and four assists for 10 points. Kiernan has eight goals and 11 assists for 27 career points heading into his senior season next fall.
Colby teammate Brian Kasarjian was honored with the Sam Koch Award for spirit and dedication to the Mules' program. Koch played on Colby's 1978 New England championship team and is the current coach at the University of Massachusetts. The Loebs Award is named after Mike Loebs, the first Colby men's soccer coach in program history.
The Mules finished 7-7 and lost four games by one goal, including two overtime contests.
