Colby men's tennis takes victory over Southern Maine
GORHAM, Maine -- The Colby College Mules swept the three doubles matches and won five of six singles matches to defeat the University of Southern Maine Huskies 6-1 in a non-conference men's college tennis match Wednesday at the USM Field House.
The win lifts the Mules record to 3-2 for the spring season. The match was the spring season opener for the Huskies.
Picking up singles victories for Colby were first-year Bryan Brown (Bangor, Maine) at number one, sophomore Zach Schuman (Watchung, N.J.) at number two, senior Ben Crane (Orlando, Fla.) at number three, first-year Nick Rosen-Wachs (Scarsdale, N.Y.) at five and first-year Mather Neill (Kentfield, Calif.) at number six. Neill won his match over Derek Stevenson (Raymond, Maine) in a super tiebreaker, 13-11, after the two split the two sets.
Brown and Brody Saunders won at first doubles and the team of Rosen-Wachs and Neill took took the third doubles match in tiebreakers. Schuman and Crane cruised to a victory at second doubles.
Colby will play the University of Missouri-St. Louis in Hilton Head, S.C., on Monday (March 27). The Mules are scheduled to play four matches in South Carolina.
