Colby men's tennis battles hard for win over Tufts
MEDFORD, Mass. – The Colby College men’s tennis team won the important doubles point and got comeback performances out of Brody Saunders and Zach Schuman in taking a 4-3 victory over Tufts University on Friday.
Saunders and Schuman each lost their opening set only to storm back for singles wins. Saunders fell 6-0 to Paul Roberts at first singles and then regrouped for 6-2 and 6-3 wins in the next two sets. Schuman lost 6-3 to Jon Rubenstein before battling back with 6-2 and 6-4 victories in the next two sets.
Five of the six singles matches went three sets and the other one was headed that way until a Colby player was forced to retire. Ben Crane won at fourth singles with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 win against Sean McCooey.
Schuman and Crane easily won at first doubles for Colby, now 9-4 this spring. Saunders and Brown joined forces for a 9-7 win at second doubles.
