Reed 13th in giant slalom for men's alpine team
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine ----- Men's alpine skier Charlie Reed finished in 13th place in the giant slalom in the final day of competition at the Colby College Winter Ski Carnival on Sunday at Sugarloaf USA.
Because of strong winds in the morning, only one of the scheduled two runs was completed.
Reed had a time of 53.83 for the Mules, who finished sixth out of nine teams in the men's giant slalom. Rory Kelly was 19th in 54.38, Christian Talmage took 35th in 55.82 and Jody Centauro was 37th with a 55.94.
Charlie Christianson of Williams won the men's giant slalom in 52.48. Dartmouth won the giant slalom team title with 86 points and Williams was second with 84. The Mules had 51 points.
On the women's side, Alissa Consenstein was 34th for Colby in 1:01.52. Ashley Best had a 1:01.76 for 35th place and Brett Wagenheim took 36th in 1:01.78.
University of Vermont's Jamie Kingsbury won the women's giant slalom in 55.50 to help her team win the event with 93 points. Middlebury took second place with 84 points.
In total team scores for the three-day event, Vermont won the team title with 639 points (combined alpine and Nordic scores). Middlebury took second place with 624 points and Dartmouth had 614 points for third. The Mules were eighth out of 11 teams with 340 points.
