Bailey 13th for men's Nordic team at Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- Fred Bailey finished in 13th place out of more than 100 skiers to help the Colby College men's Nordic team finish sixth at the St. Lawrence University Ski Carnival on Friday.

Bailey had a time of 26 minutes, 57 seconds over the 10-kilometer course. John Swain was 24th in 27:19.2, Austin Ross placed 37th in 27:48.5 and Kris Dobie finished in 28:00.5 for 38th place.

The Colby men's Nordic team placed sixth out of 13 schools, including knocking off University of New Hampshire and Williams. Middlebury won the men's race with 106 points and barely edged out University of Vermont's 105.

In women's Nordic racing, Kathleen Maynard had the top finish for Colby with a 19:30.6 to take 34th place in the 5-kilometer race. The Colby women took eighth place.

Jody Centauro took 16th place in the giant slalom for the Colby men's alpine team in a clocking of 2:07.67. Rory Kelly was 32nd in 2:13.99 as the men took eighth place.

The Colby women's alpine team also took eighth place. Ashley Best was 29th in 1:11.84, McKenzie Wessen took 31st place in 1:12.19 and Caitlin Healey was 32nd with a 1:12.54.

In total team scores after the opening day of racing, Colby is in eighth place out of 13 teams.
