Colby men's alpine skiers have strong finish at Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- Jody Centauro finished in eighth place and Charlie Reed was 11th in the slalom for the Colby College men's alpine ski team at the St. Lawrence Winter Carnival on Saturday at Lake Placid.

Colby had three racers in the top 20 to take fifth place out of 10 teams. The Mules were just one point out of fourth place. Centauro had a two-run total time of 1:38.92 (50.30, 48.62), Reed clocked a 1:39.58 (50.95, 48.63) and Rory Kelly placed 20th in 1:42.00 (52.50, 49.50). Sam Witherspoon took 27th place in 1:43.80 and Christian Talmage was 32nd with a 1:46.98.

The women's alpine team was eighth out of 10 teams as Alissa Consenstein led the way with a 29th place finish in 1:56.22. McKenzie Wessen took 30th in 1:56.27, Caitlin Healey had a 1:56.78 for 31st place, Ashley Best was 33rd in 1:57.24 and Emma Schofield took 36th with a 2:01.65.

The Nordic ski teams combined for a 4x5 Mixed Relay and the Mules were eighth out of 12 teams. Kathleen Maynard, Fred Bailey, Hillary Easter and John Swain took 18th place in 43:25.3. Meanwhile, Alex Jospe, Kris Dobie, Aime Schwartz and Austin Ross took 26th in 44:45.3.

In the final team scores, Colby placed eighth out of 13 teams with 429 points. University of Vermont won the carnival with 787 points.
