Lathrop fourth in giant slalom at UVM meet

STOWE, Vt. -- Abbi Lathrop finished in fourth place in the giant slalom at the University of Vermont Ski Carnival on Saturday at Stowe.

Lathrop, competing in her first carnival this winter, had runs of 1:06.03 and 1:09.30 for a total time of 2:15.33. Vermont's Jamie Kingsbury won the event in 2:13.95.

Ashley Best took 24th place in 2:25.80 for Colby, which was seventh in the giant slalom. Alissa Consenstein (2:35.92) was 29th, McKenzie Wessen (2:36.73) was 31st and Brett Wagenheim (2:38.35) was 32nd.

In men's alpine skiing, Rory Kelly was 17th in the giant slalom in 2:14.81. Charlie Reed took 29th in 2:21.78 and Sam Witherspoon was 32nd in 2:27.57 as the men took eighth place.

Nordic skiing was cancelled for the day. Scores were given for Nordic based on Friday's totals.

Colby placed seventh overall in the team scores with 429 points. Vermont won the meet with 755 points.
