Lathrop sisters in top 10 at U.S. nationals; Abbi Lathrop in Sports Illustrated
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine ----- The Lathrop sisters made it another top 10 day for Colby College at the U.S. Alpine Ski Championships at Sugarloaf/USA on Wednesday.
Jenny Lathrop (Green Mountain Valley School/North Conway, N.H.), a former skier at Colby, placed seventh in the giant slalom and current Colby senior Abbi Lathrop (Green Mountain Valley School/North Conway, N.H.) was 10th on the final day of competition at the meet.
Jenny Lathrop had a two-run total time of 2:22.99 after runs of 1:11.10 and 1:11.89. She was an All-American during her first two years at Colby, but left school to earn a spot on the U.S. National Ski Team 'C' squad.
Abbi Lathrop finished at 2:24.38 with a 1:12.61 and a 1:11.77. She had also placed 10th in the slalom during Monday's competition at the U.S. meet. Lathrop won the giant slalom at the NCAA Skiing Championships in Colorado earlier this month.
Abbi Lathrop was chosen as one of Sports Illustrated magazine's Faces in the Crowd and is featured in this week's issue. She is already being featured on the Sports Illustrated Web site at http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/scorecard/faces/2006/04/03/
The Lathrop sisters had their performances just one day after Colby College graduate Warner Nickerson (New Hampton School/Gilford, N.H.) finished in fifth place in the men's giant slalom. Nickerson's second run of 1:04.23 was second only to U.S. skiing great Bode Miller.
The Lathrop sisters and Nickerson combined for 11 All-America honors during their skiing days at Colby.
