Colby softball splits league doubleheader with Bowdoin
BRUNSWICK, Maine – Lauren Olmsted pitched a three-hit shutout in the opener and Carlie Minichino supplied the offense with a solo home run as Colby College took a 1-0 victory over Bowdoin College in New England Small College Athletic Conference softball Wednesday.
Bowdoin scored four times in the sixth inning to take a 4-0 win in the nightcap.
Olmsted struck out three and walked none in the first game. Minichino hit her homer in the fourth inning. Tory Starr and Amy Palmer had the other hits for Colby (3-12, 1-3 NESCAC East).
In the second game, Karen Reni pitched the shutout for Bowdoin (11-15, 1-3). Olmsted also pitched in the second game and threw five scoreless innings before the Polar Bears scored their runs in the sixth inning.
Minichino and Christine Fitzgerald had doubles and Starr added a single in the second game for the Mules.
