Toomey throws perfect game as Colby softball sweeps UMPI
WATERVILLE, Maine – Lindsey Toomey (Wellesley, Mass.) threw a five-inning perfect game as the Colby College softball team took an 8-0 win over University of Maine at Presque Isle in the first game of a doubleheader Friday at Crafts Field.
Colby (6-12) also took an 11-1 win over UMPI in the nightcap. Both games went five innings because of the eight-run rule.
Toomey had six strikeouts in earning her first victory of the season. She had at least one strikeout in each inning except the fifth when she forced two fly ball outs and one grounder to shortstop.
Lauren Olmsted (Lexington, Mass.) had two hits and three runs scored in the opener for Colby. Mollie Puskar (Pittsburgh, Pa.) also had two hits, while Randi Arsenault (South Paris, Maine) and Amy Palmer (Quispamis, New Brunswick) both went 1-for-1 and had two walks.
Amanda Roehn (Tampa, Fla.) got her first win of the season in the second game as the Mules scored two runs or more in all four innings of at-bats.
Alaina Clark (Casco, Maine), Palmer, Katie Wight (South Hero, Vt.) and Alyssa Charsky (Sudbury, Mass.) all had two hits for Colby. Palmer had four RBI and Clark drove in three runs, while Charsky, Essie Widlanski (New York, N.Y.) and Tory Starr (Dunbarton, N.H.) all scored twice.
