Colby softball earns wins over Brandeis, Bates
WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College softball team got a shutout from Lauren Olmsted to defeat Brandeis University and then went eight innings to knock off Bates College on Sunday in Colby Tournament games at Crafts Field.
Colby (9-17) took a 3-0 win against Brandeis and edged Bates by a 2-1 score in extra innings.
Olmsted allowed just four hits and struck out two in seven innings of work and helped her own cause with three hits. Tory Starr had a two-run double in the first inning and Amy Palmer had an RBI single in the sixth inning in the win against Brandeis. Carlie Minichino and Mollie Puskar each had one hit and one run for the Mules.
In the game against Bates, Alyssa Crowell pitched just over three innings of relief for Colby to earn the win in eight innings. Runners are placed at second base at the start of extra inning play in softball. After Bates was unable to score, Starr had a sacrifice fly to bring in Kara Fagan with the winning run. Puskar finished with two hits and one run for Colby.
