Colby softball wins local battle with Thomas
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Lauren Olmsted (Lexington, Mass.) threw a complete game and Carlie Minichino (Stratford, Conn.) had a home run among her two hits to lead the Colby College softball team to a 6-2 non-conference victory over Thomas College on Tuesday.
Olmsted allowed just one earned run, struck out five and walked three in improving her record to 4-4 this season. Olmsted entered the game leading the New England Small College Athletic Conference in earned run average at 1.14.
Minichino had a solo homer in the first inning and was on base all four times with a walk, a single and a reach by error. Christine Fitzgerald (Medfield, Mass.) had one hit and scored two runs, while Amy Palmer (Quispamsis, N.B.) had a single and two walks. Kara Fagan (Arlington, Va.), Mollie Puskar (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Katie Wight (South Hero, Vt.) all had one hit and one run. Alyssa Charsky (Sudbury, Mass.) added one hit and one RBI.
After the homer by Minichino in the first inning, Colby struck for three runs in the second thanks to four Thomas walks in the inning.
Kristen Burke (Vassalboro, Maine) had a double and a run scored for Thomas (16-19). Lindsay Sierra (Turner, Maine) added one hit and one RBI.
Colby (10-17) plays two games at St. Joseph's College on Thursday at 5 p.m.
