Olmsted leads Colby softball to split with Tufts
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Lauren Olmsted (Lexington, Mass.) made her final pitching performance in a Colby College uniform a special one by going all nine innings as the Mules took a 3-2 extra inning win over Tufts University in a New England Small College Athletic Conference East Division game Saturday at Crafts Field.
Tufts (24-12, 7-1 NESCAC East) took a 13-5 win in the second game in a contest shortened to six innings by the eight-run rule.
Olmsted, who led the NESCAC in earned run average at 1.13 heading into the game, allowed no earned runs, struck out two and walked two.
After seven innings of scoreless play, runners are put on second base to start the extra inning. Colby (11-20, 2-6) and Tufts each scored once in the eighth inning.
