Colby softball player Olmsted earns NESCAC all-conference honor
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College senior pitcher Lauren Olmsted (Lexington/Lexington, Mass.) was named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference all-conference second team for softball.
Olmsted led the NESCAC in earned run average at 1.01 and finished the season with a 5-5 record mainly because of poor run support. The next best earned run average in the league was 1.59.
Olmsted had a 17-16 record in her four-year career and had earned run averages of 1.01, 1.62, 2.04 and 1.15. Olmsted missed nearly all of her junior season with an injury.
Olmsted, who often pitched against the tougher teams on Colby's schedule, was the NESCAC Pitcher of the Year and a first-team selection during her first year with the Mules. Besides her pitching, Olmsted finished with 57 career hits.
Olmsted's best performance this year was working all nine innings and allowing no earned runs in a 3-2 victory over Tufts. The two unearned runs came in the eighth and ninth innings when runners are placed at second base to start the inning.
