Men's squash opens at 2-0; women lose tight matches

The 16th-ranked Colby College men's squash team opened the season with convincing 9-0 victories over Northeastern and MIT on Sunday at MIT.

In women's play from Saturday at Wesleyan, Colby lost two tough 5-4 matches to Stanford and Connecticut College.

First-year player Jake Leiby (Short Hills, N.J.) won his first two collegiate matches for the Colby men at the number one spot. Todd Basnight (Newton, Mass.), Ryan Maher (St. Louis, Mo.), Amit Gaind (Lynnfield, Mass.), Sam Weeks (Keene, N.H.), Nate Stone (Bow, N.H.), Mark Biggar (Cleveland, Ohio), Brett Willis (Simsbury, Conn.) and Justin Russell (Amherst, Mass.) all won two matches for the Mules.

Emilie Slack (Villanova, Pa.) and Nina Delano (Greenwich, Conn.) both won two matches for the 14th-ranked Colby women. Stacy Petro (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Kate Dziedzic (Deerfield, Ill.) won against Connecticut College, while Jessica Vogel (West Hartford, Conn.) and Sophie Newbury (Brooklyn, N.Y.) took matches against Stanford.
