Swim teams open season with losses to Amherst
WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College All-American Kelly Norsworthy started the season with a pool record and an NCAA 'B' cut qualifying time for the women's swim team in a 154-116 loss to Amherst College on Saturday.
The Amherst men took a 183-99 win against the Mules in the other meet.
Norsworthy had a pool record time of 2:13.01 in the 200 individual medley. Carolyn Plant had the old record at 2:13.24 from 2004. Norsworthy also had the 'B' cut NCAA time in winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.83. She also placed second in the 100 freestyle.
First-year swimmer Kelsey Potdevin set a school record in the 200 backstroke in 2:11.72. She finished second in the 100 and 200 backstrokes behind NCAA champion Brittany Sasser of Amherst.
Jamie Warner also had a fine opening meet for the Colby women with victories in the 100 butterfly (1:02.83) and the 200 butterfly (2:17.01). Annie Muir won the 200 breaststroke in an NCAA 'B' cut time of 2:27.13.
For the Colby men, Jabez Dewey was first in the 100 backstroke (53.04) and Chris DeSantis took the 100 breaststroke (1:02.83). The 200 freestyle relay team of Evan Mullin, Sam Wampler, Ryan Adams and Dewey won in 1:30.04.
