Norsworthy, Potdevin, Dewey lead Colby swim teams
NEW LONDON, Conn. --- Kelly Norsworthy (West Hartford, Conn.) won four individual races and Kelsey Potdevin (Juneau, Alaska) captured three races for the Colby College women’s swimming and diving team at Connecticut College’s Camel Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
On the men’s side, Jabez Dewey (Worcester, Mass.) won three races for Colby in the meet.
Norsworthy, an All-American last year in her first season at Colby, won the 50 breaststroke (31.16), 200 individual medley (2:13.41), 100 breaststroke (1:07.17) and the 200 breaststroke (2:26.66). Meanwhile, first-year swimmer Potdevin took the 50 backstroke (28.34), 100 backstroke (1:01.45) and 200 backstroke (2:13.79).
Norsworthy, Potdevin and Jamie Warner (Port Washington, N.Y.) were all part of two relay victories for the Colby women. The three joined forces with Courtney Chilcote (Pepper Pike, Ohio) to win the 400 medley relay in 4:09.84 and then got together with Beth Foxwell (Indianapolis, Ind.) to take the 200 medley relay in 1:53.77.
Annie Muir (Springfield, Va.) had a good meet for Colby with seconds in the 50 breaststroke (32.50), 400 individual medley (4:52.65), 100 breaststroke (1:09.20), 200 breaststroke (2:30.40) and the 1,650 freestyle (18:56.88).
Warner took second in the 50 butterfly (28.27) and third in the 200 butterfly (2:17.88). Catherine Fanning (Concord, Mass.) was fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.61) and fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.91).
Dewey was a winner in the 50 backstroke (25.12), 100 backstroke (53.52) and 200 backstroke (1:58.93) for the Colby men. Evan Mullin (Winnetka, Ill.) placed third in the 200 freestyle (1:48.35) and had fourths in the 500 freestyle (4:57.53) and 1,650 freestyle (17:39.41).
Colby diver Ian Cross added fourths in the 1-meter (201.05 points) and 3-meter (184.50) competition. Chris DeSantis (Wellesley, Mass.) also had fourths in the 50 breaststroke (28.76) and the 100 breaststroke (1:02.84). Patrick Dean (Atlanta, Ga.) took fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.55) and Mike Finnerty (Garden City, N.Y.) was fifth in the 200 backstroke (2:06.32) and the 400 individual medley (4:38.41).
