Norsworthy wins second NESCAC title as Mules take sixth
BRUNSWICK, Maine ---- Colby College sophomore All-American Kelly Norsworthy won her second New England Small College Athletic Conference title of the meet in helping the Mules place sixth at the league championship meet Sunday at Bowdoin College.
Norsworthy had a national 'A' qualifying time of 2:20.21 in easily winning the 200-yard breaststroke. Wesleyan University's Amanda Shapiro was second more than four seconds back at 2:24.76. Colby's Annie Muir placed fourth in 2:26.51 in a national 'B' qualifying time.
Norsworthy opened the meet Friday by winning the 50 breaststroke and then was second to national record holder Lindsay Payne in the 100-yard breaststroke on Saturday.
Colby's 400 freestyle relay team of Kelsey Potdevin, Meg Vallaly, Muir and Norsworthy placed ninth in 3:39.63.
Potdevin, the NESCAC champion in the 50 backstroke, placed 16th in the 200 backstroke in 2:18.25.
The Mules finished with 788.5 points and were just 19.5 points out of fifth place. Williams College won the NESCAC title.
