Norsworthy second in 100 breaststroke at NCAA meet
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. --- Colby College sophomore Kelly Norsworthy went as fast as she ever has in the 100-yard breaststroke in taking second place in the event at the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota.
Norsworthy's time of 1:03.32 broke her own school record of 1:03.41 she set at the New England Small College Athletic Conference Championships. However, Williams College senior Lindsay Payne won the race in 1:01.41 after setting a meet record with a 1:01.13 in a preliminary race. Norsworthy finished in third place in the 100 breaststroke at last year's national meet in 1:04.46.
Norsworthy will look for her third individual All-America honor in this championship meet in the 200 breaststroke Saturday night.
Norsworthy, Kelsey Potdevin, Maddie Given and Courtney Chilcote finished in ninth place and won the consolation final with a time of 1:47.05 in the 200 medley relay. The clocking by the women would have been good for sixth place in the championship final. The foursome had a time of 1:48.87 in a preliminary race earlier in the day.
