All-American Dewey fifth in NCAA 100 backstroke
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. --- Colby College junior Jabez Dewey (Worcester, Mass.) earned All-America honors for placing fifth in the 100-yard backstroke at the NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday night at the University of Minnesota.
Dewey finished with a time of 50.90 in the championship final. He had a school record clocking of 50.87 in a preliminary race for the fifth fastest time during the afternoon session.
Williams College senior Will Cunningham won the race in 48.60, but all the other swimmers were at 50.28 or above. Cunningham had set an NCAA record with a 48.60 in the prelims.
Dewey finished in 11th place with a time of 51.73 and earned honorable mention All-America honors a year ago at the NCAA meet. He closes out racing at this year's meet in the 200 backstroke on Saturday.
