Norsworthy earns All-America honor for taking seventh
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. --- Kelly Norsworthy got the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships off to a solid start by finishing in seventh place and earning All-America honors in the 200-yard individual medley on Thursday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
Norsworthy had a school record time of 2:07.84 in a preliminary race to get into the championship final. She then stayed consistent with a clocking of 2:07.86 for seventh place. Lindsay Payne of Williams set a national record in the event with a 2:03.14. Norsworthy, who finished ninth in the 200 IM last year, and Payne will battle the next few days in the 100 and 200 breaststroke races.
Despite being the 18th seed in the 400 medley relay, Colby's team of Kelsey Potdevin, Norsworthy, Maddie Given and Courtney Chilcote took 12th place in the consolation final in 3:59.72. The Mules had a time of 3:59.27 in a prelim race earlier in the day. The prelim time was about 2.5 seconds faster than the group clocked at the NESCAC meet.
Potdevin, Norsworthy, Given and Chilcote took 17th place in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:39.72.
Colby is currently in 16th place after the first day of competition. The Mules are expected to score their most points of the meet on Friday and the competition will close out on Saturday night.
