Minty places ninth in 10,000 meters at NCAA meet
LISLE, Ill. --- Colby College's Jess Minty (Concord, Mass.) just missed out on All-America honors by placing ninth in the women's 10,000-meter run at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday night at Benedictine University.
Minty finished with a time of 36:37.19, a better time than her winning clocking of 36:45.06 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference Championships. Minty normally runs the 800 and 1,500 meters, but raced in the 10,000 because the event did not conflict with Colby's graduation this weekend.
Caroline Cretti of Williams College won the race in a blistering 35:10.42, nearly 42 seconds faster than the runner-up.
Minty was hoping to earn All-America honors in three straight seasons. She finished 16th at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships and was eighth in the 800 meters at the indoor track and field nationals. The top eight finishers earn All-America honors at the NCAA meet in track and field.
In the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Colby sophomore Anna King finished in 10th place.
King was seventh last year in the NCAA meet in the steeplechase. She had a time of 10:59.51 in taking 10th place this year. Concordia's Amanda Kuca won the event.
