Foster, Minty, relay team take seconds at New England D3 meet
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --- Jason Foster finished in second place in the hammer throw for the Colby College men at the New England Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday at Springfield College.
Meanwhile, Jess Minty was second in the 1,500-meter run and helped the 3,200 relay team to a second place finish for the Colby women.
Foster had a throw of 180-1 to earn eight points for the Colby men. MT’s Uzoma Orji had a huge toss of 205-09 to win the event. Foster also placed eighth in the discus (143-01).
Minty had a time of 4:34.33 in the 1,500 for the Colby women and ran the anchor leg as the 3,200 relay team of Devan Fitzpatrick, Hillary Easter and Liz Petit placed second in 9:22.19 to Amherst (9:18.08).
Easter was third in the 3,000 steeplechase (11:20.18) and Anna King took fourth in the 5,000 meters (17:47.62). Erin Beasley placed sixth for Colby in the 100 (12.89) and 200 (27.00) dashes, while Petit was seventh in the 1,500 meters (4:42.90) and Anna Bruno took seventh in the pole vault (10-0).
Kara McCabe placed eighth in the seven-event heptathlon with 3,239 points. She won the shot put with a throw of 34 feet. McCabe also was sixth in the 800 meters (2:32.76) and the long jump (14-9.75). She also had finishes of 19.64 in the 100 hurdles, 4-6 in the high jump, 29.96 in the 200 dash and 67-01 in the javelin.
The Mules got ninths from Allison Cogbill in the 10,000-meter run (40:44.12), Liz Turner in the 5,000 meters (18:18.22) and Rebecca Anderson in the 3,000 steeplechase (11:54.63). Sharon Fuller was 10th in the steeplechase (12:02.18) and Brianna Kondrat was 10th in the shot put (37-5.25).
For the Colby men, Madison Gouzie was third in the 400 hurdles (55.59) and Jeff Alden took fourth in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:35.05). Dan Vassallo took eighth in the 5,000 meters (15:23.45), Alex Gill was ninth in the 10,000-meter run with a clocking of 34:04.03 and Menya Hinga was 10th in the 800 meters (1:56.40).
The Colby women placed 10th out of 28 teams with 37 points, while the men took 14th out of 26 teams with 21 points.
